Eric Hirshberg has made a few interesting statement in regards to the console war between the PS4 and Xbox One. In a long interview with Edge Online on Nov. 18, Activision’s chief executive officer believed that the battle between Sony and Microsoft has been great.
He explained that the worst thing that could happen in the industry is apathy. He went on to praise the two console manufactures for creating two next-generation systems with different approaches, adding in that the gamers will win in the end. You can find a few screens from “Call of Duty: Ghosts” in the slideshow to the left of this article and the statement from Eric Hirshberg regarding the console war below:
Taking the broadest perspective, it’s great how passionate everybody is. The worst possible response we could be seeing as an industry would be apathy. People are anything but apathetic! There are a lot of very strong points of view out there and we’ve seen them being voiced in very dramatic fashion since the console reveals, and that’s ultimately good news for the industry. This is a passionate and engaged audience, and they’re paying attention to the new hardware. I think, though, that the concept of the console wars exists primarily in our own echo chamber as an industry. What you really have is two different approaches from two very capable companies. Both machines are terrific, so it’s gamers who will win, because they have choice. They’re not carbon copy boxes with different logos on the front.
The chief executive officer of Activision also talked about the transition from one generation to the next. He believed that releasing “superlative” games to franchise like “Call of Duty” in order to create a “gold standard” will help the company overcome “some short-term bumps in the road.”
“Call of Duty: Ghosts” is the first game of the franchise to be released for the PS4 and Xbox One. The first-person shooter uses a new engine, supporting a native resolution of 1080p on Sony’s new console. In comparison, the Xbox One version can only run natively at 720p.
In addition to the next-generation systems, “Call of Duty: Ghosts” was also developed for the Nintendo Wii U, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
