Bucky Dent hopes to bring some of his World Series magic back to New York, when he appears at the 2013 Harrison Apar Columbus Day Golf Classic at the Mohansic Golf Course in Yorktown Heights, N.Y., on Monday, October 14.
Dent, the 1978 World Series MVP, will headline the golf tournament and dinner reception. The proceeds benefit the Harrison Apar Field of Dreams Foundation, which bears the name of the late Harrison Apar, who despite standing only 3-foot-1, had a deep love for sports and often competed against kids twice his size. He succumbed to complications from heart surgery at the age of 15, but his strong spirit continues to live on through the work of the foundation.
His father Bruce, who is the president of the Harrison Apar Field of Dreams Foundation, has spearheaded efforts to improve many of the community centers and recreational programs of Yorktown Heights so that other children may experience the same things that young Harrison was so passionate about.
“He didn’t let him being a dwarf stop him from playing sports and having fun. He continues to be an inspiration to young people that never met him,” said Apar.
Registration is still available for adult and youth participants in the golf tournament, as well as the post-event dinner. Check-in time is 7:30AM. The fee is $195 for adults and $160 for children under 18. All participants will receive a shirt, golf towel, logo balls, as well as complimentary breakfast and lunch. Dinner reception tickets are $60.
