When it happened on Tuesday afternoon, it caused several residents to leave the area by being air-lifted out, says the US Coast Guard.

It was around 2.30pm this afternoon when officials first received reports of a fire on Kimball Island, located in the Sacramento Delta, says Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Inspector Steve Aubert.

A San Francisco spokesperson told KTVU Channel 2 News that four people had actually been evacuated.

The fire is being tackled by air and by fire boat.

Seven other residents left using their own boats while three people decided to stay on Kimball Island.

According to KTVU Channel 2 News:

"Crews from the Rio Vista, Solano County, San Joaquin fire departments were battling the blaze Tuesday evening, while Cal Fire crews were using a chopper to provide air support."

Smoke can be seen from as far away as Antioch but the crews that came in to help from Costa County have left since Kimball Island is not part of the jurisdiction of the county, reported Aubert.

Fire danger and warm weather have not gotten less over the past few weeks. Tomorrow and Thursday will be the warmest weather of the week without any chance of rain for seven days, reports Channel 5 News in San Francisco.
