The wonderful ambiance that is seen at both the Billboard Music Awards and the MTV Music Awards are that the celebrities can wear anything they want. Artists collectively bring music and fashion to life. Last night's 2013 Billboard Music Awards were no exception.
Justin Bieber sported the mirrored lens aviator sunglasses through the entire show, including two performances and acceptance speeches. The amazing Madonna and actress Ginnifer Goodwin both showcased bustiers which are normally worn under the top. Legs and legs abound on the women also covered in fishnet stockings, sheer covering or very shredded leggings worn by Nicki Minaj.
The grand finale performance of the night was done by the artist known as Prince. He performed after receiving the Billboard's Lifetime Music Award at the end of the show. Prince's normal attire of henna tattooing on his hands and arms, purple velvet long tailored, button captain's coat and leather pants with silver buttons down the seam, were nowhere to be found last night. Prince came on stage resembling the late great, Jimi Hendrix. Letting his hair out for the first time was the first shock. Prince also adorned the famous round-rimmed glasses also made famous by John Lennon and Janis Joplin in the late 1960s. Prince, normally is very fashion forward, but last night, he took the trends from some American rock stars. Prince looked great.
Maybe, with all of these looks, could anything really stand out as noticeable if all the fashion is noticeable? Yes, there was a little something quite trending and therefore, quite noteworthy, the new parachute pant. What? You may think. The pants may famous by MC Hammer, parachute pants also became known as 'Hammer Pants'. Recording artist Internet phenom Psy was wearing them when he debuted his new video on YouTube. Even though Psy wasn't performing last night, he was presenting and wearing the new 'pant'. Justin Beiber, Will.I.Am, and other artists were all wearing this new 'pant' last night. These pants are not loose as the famed parachute pants were. They are much more structured. It is like attaching a thigh-high leg and inseam to tailored mini-skirt, very similar to the penguin pant wore by Dick Van Dyke's character in Mary Poppins, when he danced with the penguins. Will this trend really make it to the streets? This is a trend to watch.
The 2013 Billboard Music Awards brought nothing short in bold fashion and accessories by the amazing artists who wore them. Never forget that what you wear, is your art for the day. We are all artists and let's support each other. Let's go create!
