“I’m tired of them (atheists)... … I think that our representatives have spoken over and over again (in support of the Pledge), and that, if these people really don’t like it, they don’t have to live here...”
Perino, former White House Press Secretary for George W. Bush, made her unfortunate comments while appearing on Fox News’ The Five, broadcast Sept. 4, 2013. Adding insult to injury, Perino’s fellow panelists apparently approved of her insensitive and inflammatory remarks: “Yeah, that’s a good point,” co-host Bob Beckel agreed.
Beckel is mistaken - Perino does not make a good point. Her point, in reality, is a juvenile, petty and mean spirited response to sincere Americans attempting to honor the US Constitution, and the secular values upon which this country was founded.
In reality, Perino’s remarks are the remarks of a bigot, and exemplify the type of bigotry atheists, agnostics and other freethinkers have been forced to endure for far too long.
