Bigfoot, the Whistling Mouth by Mitch Waite
It appears that Sasquatch whistles. I first ran into this detail when I was reading Christopher Murphy's book "Meet Sasquatch”. The Kuakiutl Tribe refers the Sasquatch as “the Whistling Mouth” and states that the hairy man whistles to lure men out of the safety of the village.
This little tidbit of information stuck a cord. On the Mogollon Rim of Arizona, Researchers have reported several events of whistling, which the researchers have never heard before. On several occasions, these whistles could be heard approaching and leaving the area. There seemed to be a connection. Does Bigfoot whistle?
In the in the August 19, 1839, issue of the Carroltonian is an article. The article talks about two events of whistling associated with Sasquatch like creatures. One near Bridgewater, and the other was near Silver Lake Township, Pennsylvania. The first event was of a young boy picking berries when he noticed a hairy creature, looking much like a child of about eight, coming towards him whistling as it went. After recovering from fright, the boy gave chase, but was not able to catch the creature. It had quickly out run the young man while all the time whistling.
The second account happened about two weeks later to another youth about 16 years of age. He was hunting in the woods when he heard someone coming towards him whistling quite merrily. The lad described the creature as looking much like a human being covered with black hair. He went on to say it was about the size of his six year old brother. The young man took a shot at the beast, but missed. It dodged behind a tree and then fled continuing to whistle as it ran.
More reports came in about whistling on the Mogollon Rim, home of the Mogollon Monster, Arizona’s Bigfoot. These events usually happened near dusk or after dark. The whistles were described as being basically monotone, short whistles, which sounded much like a human. However, there were no humans other than the researchers in the area.
On one such event, a recording was obtained of a Researcher whistling to two unknown whistlers. The Researcher received several replies from the thick bushes not more than thirty feed away.
