Big Oil goes after the polar bear, again

According to a report by the Center for Biological Diversity, fifteen oil giants, including Chevron, Exxon Mobil, BP, and Shell, recently sued the federal government for preserving 120 million acres in arctic Alaska for polar bear protection. The lawsuit from the Alaska Oil and Gas Association claims that polar bear populations are not declining and therefore undeserving of this protected habitat.  They are also suing because the wildlife preserve is apparently expensive to set aside, and its existence is a hindrance to gas and oil drilling. The State of Alaska agrees, amongst other parties involved, and is willing to challenge the existence of the nation’s largest preserve.

Please donate to the Polar Bear Protection Fund. The Center for Biological Diversity will use this money to take legal action against the Alaska Oil and Gas Association lawsuit and hopefully have the case thrown out.  The Center has already been instrumental in achieving Endangered Species Act protection for the polar bear, as well as the original designation of the 120 million acre habitat preserve. Every dollar helps, so please make a donation today.
