If you are looking for something a little bit different to celebrate Valentine's Day with that special someone, then Bakersfield's Stars Dinner Theatre may have just the thing for you. An evening of dining and dancing to Mark Meyer and His Orchestra is scheduled for tonight, bringing the big band sounds of a bygone era for fans of the genre.

Meyer is frequently seen performing at other venues around town as part of a duet or small combo. He has put together a stellar big band, however, composed of several of the finest jazz musicians that Bakersfield has to offer. They include pianist Doug Davis, drummer Ernie Cervantes, trumpeters Michael C. Raney, Mark Manda, and Kris Tiner, saxophonists Paul Perez and Mike Raney (same name, different person), Glen Fong on bass, and many others.

Additionally, two local vocalists, Jason McClain and Kama Ruby, will be adding their talents to several of the tunes.

Reservations may be made by calling Stars at 325-6100. The cost is $45 with dinner, $25 without. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the band starting at 7 p.m.
