Best Products to Help Your Skin Glow

Regardless how beautiful you feel or how stunning your makeup looks, dull skin can ruin everything. A dull look takes away from your inner glow -- not letting you shine. Experts in skin rejuvenation know the best tips and tricks to get that dull skin back to glowing perfection.

Before using any products, New York City dermatologist Lori Brightman of Laser Skin Surgery suggests cleansing the skin first.

“In order to get the effects from a great product, first the skin should be well cleansed,” says Dr. Brightman. “I suggest starting with a gentle cleanser like Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser.”

Dr. Brightman also recommends always using sunscreen, saying that it is “really the best defense against dull aged skin”. She loves Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch sunscreen because it is non-comedogenic -- meaning, it won’t produce any acne on your skin.

If you’re thinking that your skin may be too sensitive to try products, director of skincare at the Oasis Day Spas in NY, Christie Lavigne, says that may not be the case.

“So many people do not have sensitive skin, but instead, they have sensitized skin caused by using harsh chemicals, peels and retinols,” says Lavigne.

She recommends products from Eminence Organics, saying that these are plant sourced from powerful and healing botanicals. Lavigne says that these products have never been heated, which allows them to maintain their nutritional value. “They are food, so they are instantly recognized by the skin, which drastically reduces chances of a potential reaction.”

If you’re willing to spend what it takes for beautiful skin, beauty blogger Constance Dunn of Practical Glamour recommends using Murad Active Radiance Serum. Although it’s a bit pricey, even for a 1-ounce bottle, it gets the job done.

“It does a nice job and features glycolic acid as a top ingredient,” says Dunn. “Glycolic acid is a gentle exfoliant and you’ll see maximum benefits if used everyday.”

For a budget friendly approach, senior aesthetician at MedSpa44 in New York, Carmen Fernandez, loves Olay products.

“Olay Age Defying Series treats the early signs of aging with instant hydration that firms skin and gently smoothes out the appearance of lines and wrinkles,” says Fernandez. “Proven anti-aging ingredients, vitamins, ceramides and antioxidants combine to create a special anti-aging blend that moisturizes to transform -- leaving you with younger-looking skin in just four weeks.”

For an instant glow, executive director of esthetics at the Tricoci University of Beauty Culture, Gabriela Santana-Blackburn says that using a moisturizing cream mask with light reflecting minerals like Repechage’s Hydra Dew Illuminating Cream Mask will give you just that.

“You can apply a small portion of this mask to the skin and work it in without rinsing it away,” says Santana-Blackburn. “Because it is a cream mask, it will act like a moisturizer to help plump-up fine lines and wrinkles without feeling chalky or too heavy.”

Santana-Blackburn says that this particular mask will create an instant glow because of the light-reflecting titanium dioxide it contains. However, she does state that this is a temporary fix because once the product is washed off, your glow will be too.

It’s safe to say that if you’re spending over your budget on facial products, you’re looking for something a bit extra. Cosmetic chemist Ron Robinson of BeautyStat.com recommends Rodan & Fields REVERSE Dual Active Brightening Complex.

“The product contains both vitamin C and retinol for a brightening effect,” says Robinson. “It also diminishes the look of fine lines and wrinkles.”

What more could you ask for?

Depending on exactly what you’re looking for and what state your skin is in -- there is always a way to refrain from strutting around town with dull skin.
