If you read my recent article you all know I’m a big fan of the ThinkFun brand of smart games and toys. ThinkFun ran one of Jennifer O’Toole’s excellent blog posts on their site. Jennifer O’Toole is an author, teacher and mom. She has Aspergers as does her three children. She has found ways to incorporate ThinkFun toys into lessons that go much deeper than how to play the games. She has partnered with ThinkFun to create the Asperkids Collection. Jennifer has chosen each item in the collection because they help to build flexible thinking, communication, attention, memory and of course, they are fun. Jennifer will be contributing posts on how to use the games with your child.
Here are my favorites from the collection:
Rush Hour Jr. - the game she discusses in her blog post above, teaches kids to break things down into steps, and much more
Zingo - a fun spelling game that also helps with social interaction
Math Dice Jr. - great math practice with fun colors and social interaction
Chocolate Fix - practice deductive reasoning with yummy looking plastic chocolate pieces
Shape by Shape - like tangrams but with more interesting shapes, teaches conceptual thinking and spacial relations
