Beatles tribute bands from around the world are joining together to take part in a musical relay launched at the Cavern Club to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the release of the song “From Me to You,” the Beatles Story museum, which is organizing the event, announced today.
The “From Me to You” relay coincides with the 50th anniversary next month of the release of the song, which was co-written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. and became their first number one hit in the UK on some charts.
The Beatles tribute bands will record their version of the song then pass the “baton” to the next country to improve on their versions. The best versions submitted will be compiled into a music video that will be released to the world on April 11th, the 50th anniversary of the release of "From Me to You."
The relay was officially launched at the Cavern Club, the scene of many early Beatles performances before they became famous, last Thursday when house band The Cavern Beatles played the song in front of a packed house of Beatles fans. You can see the performance at the video link at left. The organizers of the event believe it is the first time that global tribute bands have joined forces to create a video in this way.
