Beatle news briefs: Restored Beatles film to be screened; Yoko as art

The newly restored Beatles film “A Hard Day's Night” will get one of its first screenings at the upcoming The Provincetown International Film Festival, which takes place June 17-23 in Provincetown, Mass., Cape Cod Online reported March 29.The screening, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the film and the Beatles, will be a preview of the film before it’s released to movie theaters on July 4. The festival schedule has not been announced, but their website is here.The new restoration of "A Hard Day's Night" will premiere in April at the Turner Classic Movies film fest. Yoko as art: Yoko Ono is known for her artwork, but it isn't often that Yoko herself becomes art, as in this very nice sketch by Geoff Winston of her onstage from London Jazz News.

Ken Scott interview: Beatles engineer Ken Scott answered a few questions sent to him in this interactive interview on the Abbey Road Studios site. Here's one of the questions: “When you worked with the Beatles all those years ago did you know then how special they were or about to become? - ‏@eskinator, via Twitter. Ken Scott: “When I started to work with them on side two of 'A Hard Day’s Night,' they were already huge and so I already knew they were special. But no-one, not even them, thought they would become part of history and still being talked about and finding new fans 50 years on.”

Good Ol' Freda” update: Yes, the film is out on DVD and Blu-ray (What? You don't have it yet? Get it at the link!) But screenings are continuing. Some of what's to come are in Buenos Aires April 4, 6 and 9; at the “Ladies and Gentlemen … The Beatles” exhibit at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts May 15; Abbey Road on the River in Louisville May 22 to 26; and Westminster Maryland on June 20 at the Carroll County Arts Council that will include a Q&A with producer Kathy McCabe. Contest: Rock Cellar Magazine is holding a contest where they're giving away a private concert by Denny Laine (with a special appearance by Peter Asher) in Southern Calfornia. Transportation and hotel accomodations are included. Details are here.
