Beatle news briefs: 'Please Please Me' album to be re-created; White Album fan

A group of artists will pay tribute to the 50th anniversary of the making of the Beatles' “Please Please Me” album by covering the songs on a BBC radio program, the BBC reported Thursday.

The musicians, to include Mick Hucknall and The Stereophonics, will use the same Abbey Road studio as the Beatles did and have only 12 hours to complete album's songs. Joining in will be Beatles engineer Richard Langham and Beatles press officer Tony Barrow.

The show will be broadcast live on Feb. 11 on BBC Radio 2. It will also be filmed for a BBC TV special, “12 Hours to Please Me” as part of "The Golden Age of the Album."

WHITE ALBUMS, ANYONE?: Artist Rutherford Chang has begun work in London on “We Buy White Albums” in which he has collected over 650 numbered first pressings of the album, which he considers, according to an announcement, “the ultimate collector’s item.” Part of Recess’ signature program Session, he'll played from his collection during the Session period and, at the end, press a new double-LP made of the accumulated recordings and images.

ONLY A FEW TO GO: Beatles author Jude Southerland Kessler announced this week she has only a handful of copies of the first edition of her second book, “Shivering Inside,” left. Once they go, the only way they'll be available for the rest of the year is through Kindle.
