Paul McCartney joined the long list of celebrities who have made tributes to the late Nelson Mandela with a statement posted on his official website Dec. 7.

“"Nelson Mandela was one of the great men of all time. I particularly admired his lack of bitterness towards his jailers, which I think set the tone for South Africa's transition to democracy,” his statement began. "I never actually got to meet him although I wished I could have done and, in fact, I would say he is the greatest man I never met."

Mandela died Thursday after a long illness. According to the New York Times, he'll be buried on Dec. 15 after days of mourning in the country. The full schedule of events is on the South African government's website.

Dollar bill sold: The signed Beatles dollar bill we reported Dec. 5 that went back on sale a second time on eBay after the first sale wasn't completed finally sold for $25,101.54 that same day. That was about $700 more than the $24,400 it sold for the first time. The dollar bill came framed with a photo of the Beatles arriving at JFK Airport and a certificate of authenticity. Up for sale currently until 4 p.m. ET Dec. 8 is a 1963 stereo UK pressing of the “Please Please Me” album. The latest bid is for roughly $4,500 USD.

Unpublished Lennon photos sold: Two rare photos of John Lennon were to be sold at auction Friday, the Liverpool Echo reported Dec. 7. The photos show him relaxing at his holiday home in Ibiza and were being sold by an art student trying to raise money for his final degree show.
