Lane played for East Central University in Ada, where the Australian was attending on a baseball scholarship. The incident happened while he was visiting his girlfriend in Duncan. His girlfriend said they had only been back from Australia for one week.
Lane was jogging when the three boys allegedly shot and killed him out of boredom. The alleged killers were aged 15, 16, and 17. The boys are in custody and will have a court appearance on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Duncan police chief, the shooting appeared to be completely random. The 17-year-old gave a complete confession to the murder, but the murder weapon has still not been found. According to the confession, when they saw him jog by, they got into a car and followed him. They then shot him in the back and drove off.
The 17-year-old said the baseball player killed by them was just for "the fun of it."
East Central University baseball coach Dino Rosato said that Lane was a "joy to coach" and that he was a respected teammate who would be missed.
