Rumors of the next "Assassin's Creed" game bubbled up this week following image leaks of a poster. Ubisoft confirmed the existence of "Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag" Thursday with the release of box art for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U.
Previous leaks suggest that "Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag" is set in the Caribbean during 1715 with players taking control of the grandfather of "Assassin's Creed III" protagonist, Connor. Edward Kenway is shown on the box art wielding a cutlass, a number of pistols and the signature hidden knife with a pirate flag flying in the background.
It appears that Ubisoft is going to leverage the ship gameplay from "Assassin's Creed III" to greater effect in the "Black Flag". It is also notable that this is the first game in the series that jumps backwards in time.
Sony and Ubisoft appear to have struck an exclusivity deal with "Assassin's Creed IV" as well as the PS3 box art shows an additional 60 minutes of gameplay.
Ubisoft is expected to have further announcements for "Black Flag" during an event next week where we may here about the status of a next-gen release on the PS4 and Xbox 720 as well.
