Ashley Greene (Alice Cullen in the Twilight) is featured in a new two-part documentary series called "Becoming" on YouTube, and in her lengthy interview, Greene recalled the exact moment she found out she'd been cast in Twilight and allowed the cameras to follow along as she got her new tattoo.
"My big break [was] Twilight. I mean, huge break," she remembered.
"I got the casting call, and it basically said like 'Girl, seventeen.' And that's it. There was no script, there was nothing, and I kind of called them and said 'Guys, what am I supposed to do with this? What is it about?' And they said, 'Oh, there's a book.' The moment that I got the call I was sleeping and ignored my phone for probably the first five calls and finally picked up my phone, and it was my agent, and he said, you know, 'Hey I just wanted to call you, personally, and let you know that the people from Twilight called and unfortunately ... you're gonna have to cut your hair.' And I was like 'You suck so bad!' But getting that call and hearing that they want to sign me up for a three picture deal, and it's a real part, and it's this book that I love, it was just incredible."
According to Ashley Greene, there's no textbook on how to handle what came after that.
"Being thrust in the spotlight is ... You know, I started out with the attitude that I was just gonna be me and keep living and doing what I wanted and realized quickly that that's not really the way it works," she explained.
As for that little foot tattoo she unveiled last month, she explained its meaning as well, saying "It says 'life's a dance.' It's a quote that I wanted to get for a long time, and I mean it is what it is. Life's a dance, and there's a song lyric 'you learn as you go, sometimes you lead, sometimes you follow,' so ..."
Greene's biggest hope for her post-Twilight future is to "have a really good balance of friends, work, family."
