Born in Belgium, local Art Sculptor, Susan O'Hara, is currently from Brandon, Florida. Susan came to the US at the age of 11 and spent her teen years in New York City where she attended the High School of Music and Art majoring in sculpture. But, it was not until many years later that her interest in sculpture really developed. Although mostly self-taught, her education as a sculptor has been a combination of local art center classes, workshops and friendships which have nurtured her creative urge.
In her own words:
“My style has been influenced by artists such as Pablo Picasso and Henry Moore, various teachers I have had and the experiences of my journey to this point in my life. Each sculpture is unique and original. The human form has always been the focus of my art - expressed from representational through abstract form - reflecting the importance that interaction has for all of humanity and the complex nature of our emotions as it affects our daily existence.”
Inner Voice
Her sculpture, Inner Voice, is featured as the image in the upper left of this article. It is a magnificent example of her talent and fascination with human emotion and form. Susan has captured the “inner voice” that lies within us all with a masterful manipulation of her sculpting material.
