Former Howard Stern Show co-host Artie Lange turned in an epic performance on Monday night's Jimmy Kimmel Live, including a story about how he was mistaken for Kimmel during one of his many recent stays at a psychiatric ward.
Lange spent 18 months seeking treatment at drug rehab facilities and psychiatric treatment centers following his brutal January 2010 suicide attempt by stabbing. The attempt came after years of a very public battle with alcohol and heroin addiction. Lange told the JKL audience that he has now been sober "for a long time," and then shared one of his favorite tales from inside the cuckoo's nest:

“I was walking around [the psych ward] and this 350 black guy thought he recognized me from TV. He goes: ‘I know you man. I know you.” And I was trying to be anonymous, but I was wearing a Jimmy Kimmel T-shirt. You get a T-shirt when you do the show, so I was wearing your shirt. And he saw the shirt and he goes: ‘Hey man! You’re Jimmy Kimmel!’ … ‘The cat’s outta the bag man! You’re Jimmy Kimmel!’…Then he starts telling everyone: ‘Jimmy Kimmel’s here man!’…Then, after like four times, I got tired so I just let him think I was Jimmy Kimmel...Then, I got him mad, because my shower was broken in the psych ward, and they had to take me to a different shower to use, and he got all mad at me. He goes: ‘Oh Jimmy, Mr. Big Shot. Mr. Celebrity can’t shower with us!"
Lange appeared on JKL with Nick DiPaolo, his co-host on Fox Sports Radio's new nightly comedy/sports talk gig 'The Nick and Artie Show'. 'Nick and Artie' is scheduled to begin broadcasting on XM radio in December 2011, and on DirecTV some time in the spring of 2012.
Howard Stern has stated that he does not plan to have Artie Lange back on the Howard Stern Show to talk about the events leading up to his suicide attempt, but fans are still holding out hope that once the King of All Media is confident that the Baby Gorilla is finally on steady ground, he'll invite him back to the studio for some much needed closure.
