The Fashion Department of Art Institute of Atlanta – Decatur is scheduled to cut a ribbon of success with new Fashion Design Lab, on January 24, 2014, at 4:00p.m., in its main gallery of the Art Institute of Atlanta – Decatur.
The Fashion & Retail Management program at the Art Institute of Atlanta – Decatur is spearheaded by its program director, Dr. Courtney A. Hammonds.
Dr. Hammonds recently contacted this examiner to provide invitation to the department’s quarterly fashion event, dubbed this year, simply as “The Fashion Experience 2014”.
Rest assured, there will undoubtedly by nothing simple about the always visually appealing smorgasbord of emerging talent on display in the Photography Studio of the Art Institute of Atlanta – Decatur, on January 21-24, 2014, between 4:00p.m. and 6:00p.m. Featured in these events will be fashion industry moguls, fashion designers and more.
At the culmination of the celebrations there will be an official ribbon cutting ceremony of dedication of the newest Fashion Lab, with DeKalb Chamber of Commerce as its special guest, on January 24, 2014 at the Art Institute of Atlanta – Decatur, One West Court Square, Suite 110, Decatur, Georgia 30030.

Recognizing the increasing “interest in individually unique clothing and styling”, Art Institute of Atlanta – Decatur campus director Jennifer Ramsey has been in support of the program from its inception.
The Fashion & Retail Management program launched on December 11, 2012, in “A Night of Fashion Design” event, with special guest Lifetime’s “Project Runway” Season 9 contestant Rafael Cox (and owner of Rafael Cox Designs).

On January 7, 2014, Dr. Hammonds divulged, in discussion with this examiner, that the Fashion & Retail Management program has grown to become the largest of the current programs being offered at the Art Institute of Atlanta – Decatur. In addition, Rafael Cox has also joined on as a professor in the Fashion & Retail Management program.
The Fashion & Retail Management program teaches you to develop, analyze, and implement sales strategies — including buying and merchandising practices, inventory control, and cost analysis. You'll also learn about coordinating runway shows, sales consultation, and working with manufacturers' representatives. According to the statistics provided in the website, 95% of graduates completed the Fashion & Retail Management program course study within 36 months. Upon completion, students earn their Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the Fashion Department, which may segue into careers such as wholesale-to-retail buyer, merchandise displayer/window trimmer, fashion designer, public relations, photographer, make-up artist, production/event planner and more.
Students work under the direction of Dr. Courtney A. Hammonds (who is also the Lead Professor) to put on a fashion show production at the end of each fashion class term, a quarterly event.
