Another year ends for Geek Media Expo and what a year it was. There were many more panels and events from last year and it appeared that there was a much larger crowd. The hallways of the Marriott were not full like last year but jammed packed. There were cosplayers and attendee everywhere especially on the fourth floor party room area.
While walking around and observing I noticed that there was not a negative thing said by attendees and many times the hotel staff were snapping pictures of the cosplayers and even poking their head into panels and events. It really was so full of positive energy that it was drawing everyone in.
When one would walk down the hallway, you would see a Dalek chasing a young Doctor Who coplayer, a few large Batman cosplayers, two Lady Deadpools, and even Pinkie Pie from My Little Pony. A few of the best copalyers were the Hulk, the White Queen and Lana from Archer.
The fans were all having fun and talking. If anything this con was a very social con. While sitting in one area taking pictures and watching people I overheard many playing the newest Pokemon games on their 3DS' and there were several people that would walk up and start conversations and trade Pokemons. Everyone there was just like one big family.
This was also one of the most organized events that I have attended. To put together a convention of this size is a feat and there was not one major glitch that I saw. The staff and volunteers were great and they actually worked well with the hotel staff, which is very uncommon. The teamwork and synergy between the two was perfect.
But, there was so much to do. There was a ball, comic improv, live music, room parties, cosplay contest, gaming, robotics, panels, artists alleys, and a great vendor room.
They announced at the closing ceremony that Geek Media 6 would be Oct. 24-26, 2014. If you would like to complete a survey about this year's event please visit their website here.
If you have not attend GMX this is one event that you need to put on your list to attend.
