Anna Chapman: ‘The Sexy Russian Spy’ launches new fashion line

Anna Chapman, the 31-year-old Russian national who came to be known as “The Sexy Russian Spy,” and who pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy to act as an agent of a foreign government after being arrested in New York City in 2010, is in the headlines again – this time for launching her own fashion line.

Her line of casual apparel and dresses has been described as "lethal weapons for women," and were shown at a recent exhibit in Turkey, according to a Jan. 13 report from Newsmax.

"The collection is based around dresses with a price range and styling that is accessible to practically any Russian woman," a spokesman for the bank where Chapman works as an advisor, Grigory Belkin, told the Interfax news agency on Friday.

The clothes from her line will be available for sale this Feb.

Chapman was deported back to Mother Russia in 2010 as part of a prisoner exchange deal, after having already gained notoriety in the U.S. as the sexy Russian spy.

Her notoriety was more permanently cemented a year later, when a treasure trove of documents and videos were released by the FBI under the Freedom of Information Act depicting Chapman back in her New York City spy days.

In July [2014] she made headlines again when she tweeted a marriage proposal to Edward Snowden, the former contractor who leaked intelligence about the U.S. National Security Agency's surveillance program.

Snowden, will you marry me?!

Czars in the Russian fashion circles appear to be completely underwhelmed about Chapman’s new fashion line.

"I wouldn't say Anna Chapman herself has ideal taste," stylist and television host Grigory Lisovets told Vechernyaya Moskva. "She wears clothes that are absolutely ordinary."

"A lot of media figures are presenting themselves as designers and couturiers, but this is far from the case," fashion historian and collector Alexander Vasilyev told the Russian newspaper. "I wish her well but I don't think her collection will be a success."
