Animal Advocates say shelter dogs were beaten by police in Eldon, Missouri (Photos)

There is disturbing news out of the Missouri Ozarks. An organization of animal welfare advocates that calls itself "Saving Dogs of Missouri" is asking all animal lovers to stand up to the officials in the small town of Eldon,Missouri. They say two Eldon police officer brutally beat dogs before taking them to be euthanized,

According to animal advocates the beating happened last October at Eldon Animal Control Shelter: Two dogs a male and female, unaltered were left in a run together. They should have been separated and put into separate runs, but the animal control officer did not bother to do that. The female was in heat. The animal were mating .

So when the officers went to get the dogs to take them to a vet to be euthanized the dogs were were "stuck" together. The two officers were in a hurry to get them to the veterinary clinic and did not give them time to separate.

The officers got a control stick on the male and tried to pull him apart from the female. But the dogs were still together. So they started to beat the male to make him let go. The male was beaten even while he was being held on a control stick and pulled, resulting in the male's penis being torn from his body.

The officers then took the dogs to Lake Pet Hospital where they were euthanized, Neither officer has taken responsibility for the beating. Both are still on duty in Eldon.

Saving Dogs of Missouri organization is outraged! They say Eldon city official deny the event ever happened. The animal welfare organization has put out a call to action asking dogs lovers to attend the city council meeting January 8th.

"This kind of brutally has got to stop! Because City Officials don't want to spend the money out of their budget to become a dog friendly town, they are shutting these dogs off from the public getting adopted or rescued! They have shut out two local rescues from helping! They have barricaded the entrance to the facility! Don't let this happen."

The group is asking that animal lovers from all over Missouri and beyond stand up for these poor defenseless animals. Here is the plea the organization has released today:
