This is the 34th article in the genealogy project “52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks.”

Maria Dorotea Gonzalez is a paternal fourth great-grandmother. She was baptized Feb. 18, 1770 at Inmaculada Concepcion Catholic Church in Mier, Tamaulipas, Mexico.

She was the daughter of Jose Alonso Gonzalez and Maria Guadalupe Garcia. Maria Dorotea was the second of five children. She had three brothers and one sister. There is no other information for Maria Dorotea’s parents or other ancestors.

Nothing is known about her life until she married Jose Cayetano Ramos. It is not known when they married, but since women often married young, and Maria Dorotea was baptized in 1770, she could have married as early as 1788 at age 18.

There is baptism information about four of Maria Dorotea’s six children. They were baptized in 1795, 1800, 1802, and 1805. There are no baptism dates for two other children, but one daughter married in 1813. This daughter married a man baptized in 1787. If the two were about the same age, it is likely Maria Dorotea herself was married at least by 1788, if not earlier, and this daughter, Maria Segunda Ramos, was likely the oldest child.

There is no other information on Maria Dorotea Gonzalez.
