Americans consume an astonishing 50 percent of the world's prescription drugs

A new report published Sunday by Natural Society says Americans consume 50% of the world's prescription drugs. That's a mind-blowing number, considering that Americans only make up 5 percent of the world population. This is the astonishing claim made in Jeff Hays’ documentary film, "Doctored." The documentary says these drugs are designed to ensure that we stay in poor health, not to heal us. It also encourages viewers to tell major pharmaceutical companies such as Merck, Pfizer, and Bristol-Myers Squibb, as well as the FDA and CDC that "you are going cold turkey."

"Sadly, Americans are more familiar with names like Abilify, Nexium, Humira, Plavix, Crestor, Advair Diskus, Enbrel, and Cymbalta, the top selling drugs of Big Pharma, than names like Aloe barbadensis, Curcuma longa, Allium sativum, Moringa oleifera, Vitis vinifera L, all indigenous plants that have healed millions around the world," the report says.

"Doctored" says a dozen huge corporations are "keeping Americans popping pills while they rake in billions."
For example annual sales for just one drug, Humira, which is used to treat Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, and also to inhibit cancerous tumor growth, was $9.3 billion.

The Hays' and many others say there are dozens of natural remedies that can be used to get the same result. The report lists turmeric, papaya leaf, grape seed extract, ginger, and even cannabis, as potential natural methods of fighting and treating cancer.

The author of the report, Christina Sarich, asks readers to consider what could be accomplished if that $9.3 billion were spent in better ways, such as creating more green spaces, preserving forests, and installing community good health gardens in every city.
