American men taking back their masculinity?

See also

American feminists may be in for a surprise. A growing number of manly men in the country are taking back the masculinity that Betty Friedan and her ilk took from them during the beginning of the feminist movement in America.

As the author of the Feminine Mystique in 1964 Friedan convinced American women that if men did not have a “feminine side” it meant they wanted to keep females barefoot and pregnant. This actually came at a time when more women were making strides in the business and financial world. The result was men started to become “wusses” and sacrificed everything that had made them attractive to women in the first place.

Author Stephen Mansfield maintains that it is time for men to throw off the faux manliness and recover what has been lost in the process. In his book, Mansfield’s Book of Manly Men he explains how men can regain the manliness that is needed at this time in America.

He describes what a genuine man has including the virtues, habits, disciplines, and actions of true manhood. That means he does his duty and bears his responsibilities:

And that means recognizing that you are not here to live out your lusts, your drives…what you are here for is to own the responsibilities that a man has in his life.

In an interview with Glenn Beck on The Blaze, Mansfield laid out the maxims that produce manly men and which will change the present culture. It will be a way that real men can show their sons, their brothers and their friends what it means to be a man.

Beck read a passage from Mansfield’s book:

[The good news is] Any man no matter his appearance or voice, can be a great man, because masculine greatness is about the doing, not about the appearance.

He added to Mansfield’s message:

Greatness is about the doing. It’s not about the thinking, it’s not about the saying, it’s not about the appearances. It’s not about anything…People will remember you for what you’ve done: good or bad you will be remembered for what you have done. Do something. Do what you were meant to do.

Has the time come for American men to throw off the chattels of feminism and regain the masculinity that was once the mantle of their masculine selves?

Will John Wayne’s manliness become the role model instead of Adam Levine’s example of manhood?
