Flint area ‘American Idol’ fans were amused by their favorite judge Steven Tyler going center stage with Lauren Alaina and her gang during Hollywood group rounds last night. One local viewer said, ‘That number was terrific. It was fun to see Steven soak up the attention. I loved the one girl playing with his hair. He really is some kind of wonderful for the show.’ Another Flint ‘Idol’/Tyler fan said, ‘Steven Tyler was such a good sport. I loved him singing along. Lauren seems like such a natural. I think Steven was right and she’s going to go really far.’
Hollywood week is always an emotional rollercoaster and last night’s show did not disappoint. The judges encouraged everyone to do their best job and Randy Jackson warned contestants to not forget the lyrics. Tyler said he didn't know anything about pressure, but was addicted to adrenalin and wanted to hear everyone sing really well.
Tyler named Lauren Alaina as ‘the one’ after her Nashville audition. She did an excellent job in group round. While the judges were impressed with the group’s original idea in pulling Tyler into the act for ‘Some Kind of Wonderful’, Alaina was the only one to make it through to the next round.
Fifteen-year-old Jacee Badeaux was feeling the strain when his group asked him to leave and he had to find another group late into the game. Brett Loewenstern took him in with opens, though and everyone fared well and got the green light to move on.
Some goodbyes were painful, like special needs mom Paris Tassin, who just didn’t deliver. Jennifer Lopez told her she was sorry, but it was the end of the line for her. Devyn Rush from Pennsylvania was in Chris Medina’s group. She was the only one in her group that did not make it and she was devastated. Also, Rob Bolin, male half of exes Rob and Chelsee Oaks from Nashville, didn’t make it through but Chelsee did.
Holly Cavanaugh who had been full of nerves and given a second chance in her original audition earned a spot in the next round and 16-year-old New York favorite Robbie Rosen is still in the game.
The Minors, a group of all 15 and 16 year olds, also sailed through to the next round and Tyler said, ‘This is what I joined forces with American Idol for.’
Flint area viewers don’t really care about Tyler’s reason for joining the show. They’re just happy he’s there. A Flint area artist/photographer summed him up well in a comment to me this morning. She said, ‘Steven Tyler owns who he is. It’s fun and refreshing to see him in his rock star element. He’s a legend and he knows it. He can also recognize talent and he’s very transparent. One look at his face and you can tell whether he’s into someone or not. I can’t wait to see the show go live and watch Steven really get in the groove.’
‘American Idol’ Hollywood week continues tonight in Flint on WSMH FOX66 at 8 PM EST.
