Amazon launched a new promotion Monday for those upgrading from an Xbox 360 to Xbox One when the next-gen console launches in November. Just like the GameStop program, owners will be able to upgrade their game for $9.99 or less.
The $9.99 upgrade offer, titled "One Up Your Game," is available for a select list of games that includes Madden NFL 25, Battlefield 4, Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Call of Duty: Ghosts, FIFA 14, NBA 2K14 and Need for Speed: Rivals. Interestingly, that's three more titles to upgrade than what GameStop offers.
This upgrade offer runs until Dec. 31, 2013 and gives players a $25 bonus trade-in credit plus at least another $25 in credit for the value of the game. This gives participants a $50 trade-in credit at a minimum that can be used towards the Xbox One version of the game at $59.99.
This move is a welcome one from a consumer point of view as most Xbox 360 gamers will get these games on the Xbox 360 first through the end of August to early November. If they decide to upgrade to the Xbox One later, they will be able to carry these games with them for a relatively minimal fee.
Microsoft also recently announced that Season Passes for some games will also carry over from the Xbox 360 to Xbox One and DICE confirmed that all Battlefield 4 player statistics will carry over as well.
There's been no announcement of a similar upgrade plan for the PS4 yet.
