Another Alaska cruise canceled on the Celebrity Millennium. Celebrity Cruises has cancelled a total of five cruises on the ship in recent memory. According to CNBC on August 21, 2013, over 3,100 passengers had to return to port in Ketchikan, Alaska.
The mechanical issues also forced the cancellation of cruises on the Millennium that were scheduled for Friday and for Aug. 30, Sept. 6 and Sept. 13, the company announced late Tuesday.
After the most recent Alaska cruise canceled, Celebrity offered refunds, airfare home and certificates good for a future cruise valued at 100 percent of the fare paid. This sounds like a good deal for the 2,200 passengers that were aboard the most recently cancelled cruise. The company promised to do whatever it took to get them home. Customers who were booked on other cancelled cruises will be offered the same less the airfare home.
The ship involved in the Alaska cruise canceled, the Celebrity Millennium, had a mechanical issue with one of its engines. A similar issue caused other cancellations. The Coast Guard ordered the vessel to stay in port until the engine is fixed. Local businesses in Ketchikan enjoyed the bump in revenue due to the unexpected guests.
