Alabama hostage standoff over: Jimmy Lee Dykes dead, boy safe

Jimmy Lee Dykes, the man who held a boy in a bunker for seven days, is dead. However, the 5-year-old is now safe.
“Reports of an explosion at Jimmy Lee Dykes' Midland City property came first on Monday afternoon, followed by media reports of the 65-year-old's death,” according to the Huffington Post.

Witnesses said they heard a loud noise and gunfire. Then ambulances immediately arrived.

FBI agent Steve Richardson said after authorities saw Dykes with a firearm, they had to take action because they felt the boy was in immediate danger. Plus, negotiations had started to worsen.

The boy was taken to a hospital and is “physically unharmed.”
