Fans of Adventurers Club, the former Pleasure Island venue at Walt Disney World, can enjoy a rare opportunity to see some of the club's actors perform again.
This September, the inaugural Adventures in Charity show will offer an evening of original comedy. The event will not only reunite a large cast of former Adventurers Club (AdvClub) actors, but will do so to raise money for good causes.
To channel the AdvClub spirit, the Adventures in Charity show will feature an impressive line-up from both AdvClub and Comedy Warehouse, another former Pleasure Island club. Graham Murphy has climbed the highest mountain and plumbed the deepest oceans to put together a large cast of familiar actors. In addition to Murphy, 10 former AdvClub performers will reunite for an evening of hoopla.
The Adventures in Charity organizers promise this non-Disney event will offer original comedy as well as “some familiar twists.”
One of the known twists for the evening, however, is its focus on fundraising. All monies raised will go to charity, and the audience will choose a best performer whose charity of choice will receive the largest share. There also will be a silent auction featuring one-of-a-kind AdvClub artifacts.
The Adventures in Charity event will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28 at the Holiday Inn Lake Buena Vista. The evening begins with a cocktail hour – Kungalooshes and other drinks will be available – followed by the show. Tickets are still available and cost $15 per person. Visit Adventures in Charity for more information or to purchase tickets.
Adventures in Charity will take place during ConGaloosh V, an unofficial fan weekend that remembers AdvClub and seeks to “celebrate and promote interactive theater” that Disney’s themed nightclub represented. Although it appears on the Congaloosh schedule, Adventures in Charity is not an “official” ConGaloosh event. And neither event is affiliated with nor endorsed by The Walt Disney Company.
The Holiday Inn Lake Buena Vista, about a mile from Downtown Disney, is also offering special room rates ($59/night, resort fee waived) for guests attending Adventures in Charity and/or ConGaloosh. To receive that rate, guests who book a room should mention they are with “The Colonel’s party.”
Adventurers Club was a nightclub at the now-closed Pleasure Island area of Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World Resort. The club was themed as a circa-1937 private club for explorers and world travelers, but one which also offered Audio-Animatronics and other Disney-Imagineereed elements. Disney guests mingled with actors, Adventurers all, for an evening of conversation, improvisational comedy, shows and drinks.
During the years of its existence (1989 – 2008) the Adventurers Club, its characters and its actors gained a faithful base of fans who continue to celebrate the club’s unique environment and experiences. Adventures in Charity and ConGaloosh are two examples of fan-organized gatherings.
