Walking into Acupuncture Fertility Center, you are met with a warm welcome and an invitation for a cup of tea or beverage from their complimentary bar. Fresh cut flowers adorn the tables and the atmosphere resembles something more of a day spa than medical facility. This is all part of the plan. Part acupuncturist, part therapist, the center’s founder Jeneanne Paden L.Ac., offers a unique brand of service that pays as much attention to the client’s mental as well as physical well being. Run in conjunction with Renee Walker, L.Ac. and Pam Kropp, they are committed to bringing you better health and a better way of life by teaching and practicing true principles of Chinese medicine, including nutritional guidance and relaxation techniques.
Jeneanne’s gift of helping those with infertility began almost by accident. Initially trained in Orthopedic Acupuncture, she began to get inquiries from those suffering with infertility. By 2003, word had spread about the specialized care Jeneanne was providing and the demand for infertility support outgrew her orthopedic practice. What makes Jeneanne’s treatment so unique is that she works with the individual as a whole, mentally and physically. Her method of treatment is based on supporting people throughout the emotionally trying process of infertility. “Just poking needles is not going to be enough. Connecting to the patients is a way to reach the spiritual side of acupuncture. This goes beyond treatment and is more than a business, it’s a tool to create a life. The goal is to make people feel at home in a nice, relaxing environment.”
Many people are not familiar with the practice of acupuncture and what it does to your body. Jeneanne explains it simply with the concept of a garden hose, “Imagine a garden hose with a kink in it. The kink makes the water stop flowing. With acupuncture, we are looking for that kink inside the body. The kink is blocking the energy flow, the chi, from our bodies.” Acupuncture helps unblock the passages, allowing the chi to flow freely, which helps regulate and improve physical and emotional functions within the body. A study, published in the April 2002 issue of Fertility and Sterility by researchers in Germany and China, found that "Acupuncture seems to be a useful tool for improving pregnancy rate after Assisted Reproductive Therapy (ART).” The study involved 160 patients, half paired their ART with acupuncture and the other half did not. For those who didn’t use acupuncture, the pregnancy success rate was 26.3%, whereas for those pairing their treatment with acupuncture it was significantly higher, at 42.5%.
When dealing with infertility, there are so many layers to treatment. Willingly adding another component, especially one that involves needles, can seem daunting. To find a reputable acupuncturist, Jeneanne recommends that individuals take the time to find their perfect match. There are many people offering acupuncture services and each has his or her own style, find the one that is right for you. Ask around and see what has worked for others. Get a professional referral from Acufinder.com or check with the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine.
For those who are still wary of acupuncture, think about giving it a try. It’s the only fertility treatment you’ll actually enjoy and if visiting the Acupuncture Fertility Center, one that comes with a massage.
