Academy Awards: 'Mr. Hublot' wins Best Animated Short film

The 86th annual Academy Awards were handed out tonight at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. In the animation category, “Mr. Hublot,” took home the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film.

The film's creators, Laurent Witz and Alexandre Espigares, were on hand to accept the Award. In "Mr. Hublot" tells the story of a man, Mr Hublot, a man who lives in a world where characters made partially of mechanical parts, driving huge vehicles, rub shoulders with each other. A world where the giant scale of machines and the
relentless use of salvaged materials reign supreme. A withdrawn, idiosyncratic character with OCD, Mr Hublot is scared of change and the outside world. His solution: he doesn't step foot outside his apartment! The arrival of the dog Robo Pet will turn his life upside down: he has to share his home with this very invasive companion.

The emotional first-time director, Witz, thanked the Academy for their support of short films and new talent. first movie as director and producer. "I feel it’s an American dream," he said during his acceptance speech. "And finally, thank you Mr. Hublot for making this dream become reality. Thank you very much."
