A Tribe Called Quest group member, Phife Dawg, is getting ready to make his return back to the music scene after a hiatus due to surgery. He is making this return via an all-star concert that is being held to raise awareness about diabetes.
The rapper was diagnosed with the illness back in 1990 but didn't take the necessary measures to stay healthy. He heavily: ate sweets, fats, and drank alcohol. Eventually, his negligence led him to be put on dialysis in 2000 and to be hospitalized in 2002. In 2008, the illness reached it's peak when Phife had to have surgery for an extremely necessary kidney transplant. This concert will be his first big appearance since the surgery took place. Other stars will be making appearances at the concert as well. Expected guests include the likes of: Ghostface Killah, Talib Kweli, actor Michael Rapaport, and tons more whose names are being kept under wraps. The music provider for the event will be D-Lyfe. In addition to all the celebs coming through, there will be several diabetes organizations on hand too. The organizations will be taking donations and educating people about the illness. Everything is going down on January 20, 2009 at 8pm. The location will be The Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, New York. Tickets to get into the event are $25 and are being sold at the door.
