Many celebrities and fans congregated to see who would go home with the 8-1/2 pound golden Oscars trophy. For a list of winners, click here.

Oscar wasn’t the only one drawing attention as celebrities, comedy, gossip and fashion filled air.

The event was catered by Wolfgang Puck and staff.

But, wait! … Ellen DeGeneres ordered fast-food delivery pizza. Not sure what that says about Puck’s catering provisions. (Don’t believe it? View the slideshow of the pizza distribution to the audience members. Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Kevin Spacey had no qualms with getting their slice of Italian cuisine. For even more, click here for photos of Brad Pitt chomping down!)

DeGeneres was the host of the show, flanked in an assortment of pant suits in shades of black and white… oh, and yeah, the big, poufy fairy dress. Have you ever seen her in a dress before?

With a “room” as big as the Dolby Center Theater, seating over three thousand attendees, you better be able to hold your own. DeGeneres did more than that. True to form, her comedic rhetoric had the audience doubled over in laughter and mouths agape in amazement. Her brilliant idea to do an impromptu, audience-participation-required, celeb group selfie retweet-a-thon exceeded President Barack Obama’s “four more years” tweet and crashed the Twitter system! It is great to see that DeGeneres’ humor is ever present even in the aftermath of rumors hit the media circuit that she was splitting from her spouse, Portia de Rossi.

But, let us reel back to fashion and gossip…

Hundreds of fan seats were provided & filled alongside the red carpet, which extends several hundred feet, complete with several larger than life Oscar statutes. Fans eagerly awaited their favorite celebrity appearances, as photographers incessantly clicked away, in hopes of getting “the money shot” of the best/worst fashions and most gossiped about “it” people. (As a side plug, Kevin Winter, Michael Buckner and Frazer Harrison, all photographers for Getty Images, are the MyMeApparel Atlanta Fashion and Entertainment Examiner “go-to” photographers for great pics. Thank you guys!)

Fashion recap spoiler alert:

Sorry guys, this fashion/gossip recap is of all of the women who stood out (the good, the bad, the ugly and most adorable) at this awards show. Outside of Pharrell’s short suit, sock-less, exposed ankles, showcasing his “Thank you” tattoo, the men left little to write home about. Tom Ford was, undoubtedly, working overtime to dress them all in fine garb; it would just be nice to see more individual, unique expression in men’s evening wear.

The good:

Acknowledging that she is the new “it” girl, it’s probably expected that you would find Lupita Nyong'o in the “good section”. So here it is. She is definitely beautiful. She is to be congratulated on her Oscar win for “12 Years a Salve”. Congratulations and Happy 31st birthday, Lupita! However, in all honesty, her selection of “plunging everywhere” blue Prada gown, on the red carpet & during award acceptance speech, could have done without the distracting show of rib cage at every angle. Not so good!

But, on that note, and moving right along … Actress Alfre Woodard more than filled the role of some good arm candy her screen writer, producer, teacher and activist hubby Roderick Spencer . Spencer wore a seemingly predictable tux while Woodard wore a graceful navy gown, which was heavily embellished at waist, arms and properly exposed bosom. Notably, her blinging sandals, mostly hidden by the length and volume of her gown, saved her many an achy-feet-hour. Given her age, beauty and grace… all that can be said is, “Do you Alfre! The sum of us wishes we could look so good!”

The bad:

Bad as in “too haute”… Actress and then some, Jada Pinkett Smith was a stunner in a few extra pounds and a pale pink, slit-up-to-there gown by Versace, both of which flattered her very well. The strappy, platform heel of matching soft pink, put the perfect touch of sexy elegance towards an ensemble of minimal accessories. (And, yes, gossip fiends, she walked the red carpet with her main man, actor, hubby Will Smith by her side, suited up with debonair black ascot. Both were all smiles and showed signs of solidarity, contrary to ongoing news blurbs/predictions of their separation.)

As a second dose of bad, like bad for real, though, actress Angelina Jolie looked aged (not in a good way) and incredibly thin in her taupe colored, bejeweled Elie Saab gown. Maybe the work schedule of directing her upcoming film “Unbroken” (scheduled to be released in December of 2014), covering the media push from fiancé Brad Pitt’s “12 Years a Slave” and taking care of six kids are taking their toll on her. Jolie is still beautiful, but it just seems that a little red in her Academy Awards color pallet would have gone a long way.

The ugly:

Actress Kerry Washington (aka “Scandal’s” Olivia Pope) looked comfortable in her Jason Wu maternity gown. However, the gown looked a little worse for the wear as the evening progressed. Several photo clips caught the usually sharp, well-put-together Washington appearing disheveled as the embellishment at the front of the gown kept shifting from front-center to off-side, presenting an asymmetrical bust. Not helping the situation any was the show of heavy creases at waistline (what we call “bunch creases”, that result from fabric being grabbed together while an individual is seated). The shots screamed the need for the Wu creation to be pressed. Who knows, maybe it was the fabric choice. Given that she looks like she is about to have the baby any moment, Washington probably felt very comfortable in the free flowing fabric. However, this was definitely a miss in the glamour category. Just say no to lopsided boobage!

Most adorable:

Actress Gabourey Sidibe may have been suffering from post traumatic stress disorder after the scathing she received from previous awards show red carpet flops, but as her “Precious” persona depicted, Sidibe is a survivor. She looked adorable in a fuchsia textured Theia gown that hit her in all the right places. (My stylist prayers have finally been answered! Gowns constructed of dolman-inspired half-sleeve, v-neck bodice sans under-bust definition and long, full skirting work wonders for Sidibe.) At 30 she has much to celebrate, as she well knows, having tweeted that she was “going to work” as a presenter at awards show. Haters keep watching, this young lady is making waves and taking no prisoners.

And, as a close to this recap,…

The prominent trending look for women on the carpet was off-shoulder, bare-shoulder full-length gowns with minimal accessories and drooping hair. Showers were predicted and the humidity was high, so maybe that was the cause of the sagging manes.

Not to be outdone by the weather, Kelly Osbourne had no shame in her game, as she adorned an umbrella to shield her purple hair and complete her pairing of Badgley Mischka dress, Judith Leiber bag, Solange from LoveGold jewelry, and Aldo shoes. The sheer embroidered caplet on Osbourne’s dress was simply adorbes!!! You may have noticed in a previous article that Atlanta’s AmericasMart recently presented similar caplet designs in its “VOW” bridal collection fashion show.

Overall, the 86th Academy Awards Oscars red carpet sparkled with fabulous evening wear fashions and the show, itself, was much livelier than some of its counterpart, thanks in part to Ellen DeGeneres’ antics and audience participation.
