When a man called 911 for help after his girlfriend caught on fire when his car went up in flames, he didn’t expect this to be a laughing matter for the 911 operator, but it was. The 911 operator is heard laughing when asking the caller if his girlfriend is still on fire and you can hear the frustration and anger in the caller’s voice, according to ABC Radio on Oct. 2. An Arizona motorist called 911 asking for help after his girlfriend was burned in a car fire. The car went up in flames. burning his girlfriend as the couple was returning home from a road trip. They were in an unfamiliar place asking for help. This man’s recording with the laughing 911 operator has gone viral.
"My car just kinda caught on fire, my girlfriend caught on fire," Delgado is heard saying nervously on the 911 tape.
The female 911 operator responded with, "Is your girlfriend still on fire?" and after Delgado said no, the operator can be heard chuckling.
"It's hilarious, huh?" an angered Delgado is then heard saying.
The operator composed herself and denied that she was laughing, but this did not stop the man’s anger over the initial reception he encountered from the 911 operator when he was looking for help. Lalo Delgato told the Tucson, Arizona KGUN-TV that he actually called 911 back to make sure this woman took the call seriously and was really sending help.
Capt. Jim Berry talked to the media about the man being upset, he said:
"Certainly I can understand why he was upset. I would be too. We did not perform as I expect or the citizens of this county expect us to...We're going to correct that."
The sheriff’s office insists that the response time getting help out to Delgato’s girlfriend wasn’t delayed at all due to the tone of the phone call. The woman who was burned is recovering today, but "she has a long road ahead of her," according to "Fox and Friends" live on Wednesday morning. Officials are investigating this incident. The 911 operator who laughed on the call has an excellent work record, report her managers.
