EssentialLifeQuotes.net offers many quotes about balance such as this one by Greek philosopher, Epicurus. He said, “Be moderate in order to taste the joys of life in abundance.” Do you taste the joys of life or are you hustling from one crisis to another stressed and overwhelmed?
As defined by Dictionary.reference.com, balance, in the context of this article, means, “A mental steadiness or emotional stability; habit of calm behavior, judgment, etc.” The website’s definition for moderate, “The quality of being moderate; restraint; avoidance of extremes or excesses; temperance.”
How do you achieve such a state of mind? Do you live in the extremes or have you found a happy middle ground?
There are 3 basic essentials that support a healthy foundation. To navigate a balanced life you must properly understand and value the following:
• Gifting your body the appropriate amount of sleep needed for healthy living. The National Sleep Foundation communicates that adults need 7-9 hours of sleep per night. Without this foundation, you gyp yourself of proper utilization of a well-rested and healthy mind.
• Daily intake of nutrition for the body and mind. Your routine must include cardio breaks to get your blood pumping and also, activities that entice curiosity and learning to benefit the mind. If you want balance in your life, a healthy diet promotes this (mind, body and spirit).
• Breathing deeply, by properly utilizing your diaphragm (especially during stressful situations) to intake an appropriate amount of oxygen better controls and offset the body’s physical reaction to stress. It gift’s a paused response.
In order for you to appreciate the words of Epicurus and take in the joys of life in abundance, you must embrace sleep, nutrition and exercise. This, my friend, sets the stage and enables moderation. I’ve said this many times in past articles, “You are your best return on investment.” Prioritize you first because this will help you better serve and balance the needs of your loved ones, your soul-work and anything else that is meaningful in your life!
