It may be cold outside but the new 2014 Sports Illustrated Barbie doll is heating things up! The controversial and #unapologetic SI Barbie doll is now out in Target stores. The doll is a "Black Label" Barbie doll intended for adult collectors and celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
Blue-eyed and blonde, Barbie wears her hair pulled back into a sleek ponytail, minus her 1960s bangs. She features the Model Muse body with both arms bent at the elbow.
Malibu Maillot to Hollywood Halter
The doll wears a black and white zebra-striped swimsuit reminiscent of Barbie's original black and white swimsuit but with a 21st century twist. Barbie also wears black open-toe stiletto sandals, modern gold hoop earrings and updated blue and white sunglasses.
The Doll That Started It All
The back of the box features a tribute to the original 1959 Barbie doll with a photo of the earliest Barbie in her original black-striped swimsuit with accessories. The picture-frame box has a box date of 2013.
Barbie may have stirred up some controversy with her #unapologetic participation in the 50th anniversary Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, but the doll will appeal to adult Barbie collectors who will enjoy the vintage aspects, and little girls will enjoy the doll too, in spite of the SI tie-in.
