2014 sexy celebrity vegetarians winners

Jared Leto and Ellen Page are the winners of the Sexiest Celebrity Vegetarians chosen in June 2014 by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). PETA's motto is "Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way."

Jared Leto is 42-years-old and has been a vegetarian since his teens, a few years later becoming vegan after learning about dairy products containing pus. He is an Oscar-winning actor who portrayed Rayon, a transgender woman fighting AIDS in Dallas Buyers Club, is a platinum rock star with his band Thirty Seconds to Mars, and posted an Instagram video of himself flipping vegan pancakes. Get 10 vegan pancake recipes on the site.

At 20-years-old in 2007 Ellen Page appeared in the hit movie Juno. Seven years later she is a glowing busy actress nominated for an Oscar, an environmentalist, feminist, activist and vegan. She has done The East, X-Men and is working on Into The Forest.

Included on the 2014 nominee list are the women's names Ariana Grande, Carrie Underwood, Christie Brinkley, Edie Falco, Ellie Goulding, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Jessica Paré, Maggie Q, Kate Mara and Sarah Silverman. The gentlemen are Cory Booker, Darren Aronofsky, Joaquin Phoenix, Juanes, Morrissey, Peter Dinklage, Ricky Martin, Russell Brand, Samuel L. Jackson and Woody Harrelson.

The PETA site has an excellent explanation of members' views on animal rights--that animals have an inherent worth, completely separate from usefulness to humans, with a will to live and a right to live free from pain and suffering. The animal rights movement challenges the traditional society view that all nonhuman animals exist solely for human use.

If you would not eat a dog, why eat a pig? "Dogs and pigs have the same capacity to feel pain, but it is prejudice based on species that allows us to think of one animal as a companion and the other as dinner." This writer's children had pet pigs which were obviously smarter than the family's several pet dogs. Pig intelligence is confirmed by PBS, ABC News, and The Humane Society. If you really must eat pork, at least buy it labeled free-range and be sure the pig has had a better life than in a tiny cage where it could not even lie down.

Read on the PETA website the complete list of celebrity vegans and vegetarian celebrities who believe in animal rights. With ages ranging from 20 to almost 80, the celebrities making compassionate to animals life choices are in politics, acting, singing, and professional sports. Names like Al Gore, Anne Hathaway, Emmylou Harris, Michelle Pfeiffer, Pamela Anderson, Paul McCartney, Phil Collen, Prince, Shania Twain and Tobey Maguire are just a sampling.

Winners of the PETA contest in 2013 were was Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard but Shepard could not accept the award since he began eating chicken.
