Blue gowns are red hot on the red carpet for 2014 Emmy Awards

The red carpet at the 2014 Emmy Awards showed a hot trend this year for actresses is the color blue. Could this be influenced by that fantastic fringed blue dress that Heidi Klum recently wore for the creative Emmys? Maybe, or maybe not, but these actresses are definitely pulling out "something blue" for good luck it looks like.

One of the best gowns in blue that has come down the red carpet so far was on "Nurse Jackie" nominee Edie Falco. After seeing Falco dressed down in scrubs and little make up on the series, it was refreshing to see her all glammed up and looking positively radiant in a form-fitting, jewel blue gown. It was classy and sexy.

On the more subtle side of the scale, Julie Bowen looks relaxed and comfortable in a navy and white print dress. And also on the darker side of the scale, Christine Baranski wore an elegant midnight blue gown with a dramatic long drape down the back.

Some aren't proving as successful in carrying off their blue gowns as the ladies above. Mayim Bialik was displaying the big blue theory on the red carpet, with a very full gown covered in lace, and a very bright color. A bit too bright, some fashionistas will probably have a field day with that one. And on top of that, she added an all blue purse to go for the overkill. We love your eccentricity, Mayim, but this runs a bit over the top.
