The 49th annual ACM Awards took place on Sunday, April 6 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The show, hosted by Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan, opened with a blast of rock sound and confetti showering the audience as The Band Perry performed “Chainsaw.”

Highlights of the show included Blake Shelton singing “My Eyes” with former “The Voice” contestant, Gwen Sebastian, Lee Brice’s heart-tugging excerpt from “I Drive Your Truck”, Eric Church blurring the lines of traditional country with a rousing performance of “Give Me Back My Hometown”, Lady Antebellum performing with Stevie Nicks, George Strait showing he’s still got it with “I Got A Car” and a George Strait and Miranda Lambert tribute to Merle Haggard.

The night’s winners were divided between those artists that fans have come to expect to always rise to the top and a few newcomers that tipped the scales in their favor, shaking off the film that can sometimes settle over awards shows.
