2011 trends in skin care and spa treatments

Particular spa treatments and skin care procedures grew in popularity during 2011 with a focus on affordability and relaxation. More and more men were spotted hitting the spa while other procedures and products emphasized sheer vanity.

Relaxation

The constant shift in the economy and job market saw many stressed to the extreme. Although luxury items generally fall by the wayside during rough economic times, there seemed to be a rise in the amount of men visiting spas for massages and pedicures as an alternative to reducing stress.

Another means of alternative relaxation techniques has been through Foot Reflexology, which is evident in the amount of spas popping up across Long Island utilizing this holistic approach to relieving stress and reducing pain such as the Tai Chi Foot Reflexology Corporation in Huntington near the Walt Whitman Mall.

Nothing is more invigorating than sitting in a massage chair enjoying a relaxing pedicure and sea scrub pedicures gained in popularity this past year with its natural and exfoliating ingredients.

Affordability

Due to the downward slope of a terrible economy, many spas, salons and department stores saw a general decrease in sales on items such as facials and expensive moisturizers. More women are attempting DIY facials and skin care with affordable products found around the home.

Tanning and Botox Parties

Vanity still wins out over economy and many are finding ways to conquer the aging process while not breaking the bank. Shows like The Jersey Shore propelled fake tanning products and tanning salons while other reality television hits such as the Real Housewives promote looking young at any cost. Although Botox and other facial fillers is not a new trend, Botox Parties have gained in popularity as a more affordable way to have the cosmetic treatment. De La Mer Salon in Bellmore hosts monthly Botox parties on Thursday evenings with wine and cheese.
