CBS 8 San Diego reports three people are being treated. CBS Los Angeles notes that one of the three people shot could possibly be a TSA employee but was not able to confirm it. The suspect is said to be in custody and was reportedly shot in the leg.
According to John Miller of CBS LA, the suspect was wearing camouflage. A large box of ammunition was also found at the scene and the LAPD bomb squad arrived to clear any suspicious packages.
CNBC and LAX have both reported that the Ground Stop program is also now in effect for the airport and applies to traffic arriving or en route to LAX. Flight operations other than arriving flights have been temporarily suspended.
The terminal was quickly evacuated and cordoned off after the shots were fired and witnesses to the incident began reporting news of the incident on Twitter, including photos of evacuees out on the tarmac. Tory Belleci of Mythbusters was in the terminal at the time and said via his own Twitter account that passengers were being shuttled away from the scene.
The LAPD, meanwhile, is asking that the area around LAX be avoided in order for resources to get in and out. The department's West, South, and Central bureaus are all currently on tactical alert. The City of LA is also on tactical alert. @911LAPD is currently providing updates as they come in.
