OSU student group looking to help students bike more

If you're an Ohio State University student and you want to ride your bike, but you're not sure about some of the best ways to do so, you're in luck.

Bike OSU, a student group for anyone wanting to get around the campus area via bicycle, is starting back up after a short hiatus brought about by members' graduating.  Austin Kocher, a graduate student in the Geography Department, and Denis de Verteuil, a graduate student in the City and Regional Planning Department, have resurrected the group and created some great goals for the group.

Bike OSU's goals for the school year are twofold: to grow their numbers and diversity through classes and rides, and to create partnerships with other groups on the OSU campus.

The inaugural event for the group is a meeting and bike ride.  The meeting will cover the organization's basics,  goals, and of course gather ideas and thoughts from interested members.  And, of course, the meeting will culminate in a nice relaxing bike ride around campus.  The meeting will be at the "big steps" at Knowlton Hall on campus, and will take place on November 2nd at 5:00 PM.

A second piece of good news for OSU cyclists is a new program being introduced by the Transportation and Parking department which allows cyclists to tag their bikes with an RFID (radio frequency identification device) to help reduce the risk of theft.  The service is free, and the "bugs" are available at University Security and Fire Prevention Services, 1010 Blankenship Hall.  The above link also has links to other great information about riding on campus and in the surrounding area.
