This next stop on the Fall fashion train is Paris 2012. The clothes shown over the next few days will be in store for Fall 2012 or in lay terms, these garments will be hitting the racks around mid-June thru September for fall selling and wearing....that is to say provided we don’t have Indian summer until November. So no matter where you shop, be it Barneys, Bergdorf’s, Bloomingdales, Saks, Jeffrey or eponymous boutiques or for that matter anywhere else, you will either be seeing these exact items or be feeling their influence.
Suffice it to say these are not the clothes for the young executive. At their very best they are for the most rarefied of fashion folk. I have a love hate thing going with him; one season I am enamored and the next I can’t find words or reasoning to describe the collection.
This season falls into the latter which is I am confused as to what this is all about and other than maybe owning a top or a piece of outerwear, what is esthetically pleasing about the look. Yes, there is some innovation in the asymmetric pleated pant and there is absolutely something to be said for Rick Owens’ steadfast point of view, whatever that may be. I am guessing that Mr. Owens has a diatribe of inspirations that will justify the clothes but once again, to me, it is just blah blah blah.
The high waisted pants called to mind Ed Norton from the Honeymooners or maybe Ron Paul especially when paired with a tank top or turtle neck. I am a big fan of the cowls and scarf like cowls that are so prevalent within the collection and they are most effective when used in the outerwear pieces. The oversized puffers strike a humorous note but one must question if that is the intent and then there are the shrunken jackets and the nappy wools which escape my comments as I have no idea what to make of them. Then there were the graphic motocross jackets which looked good but I am not sure what they mean other than a presence in the collection.
So I would love to know what you think...I am sure there will those who swoon over these clothes for their supposed creative and non-conforming take on fashion, but I am guessing that to many, these are not what they think of when they think of fashion
