Fall fashion Paris 2012… The clothes shown over the next few days will be in store for Fall 2012 or in lay terms, these garments will be hitting the racks around mid-June thru September for fall selling and wearing....that is to say provided we don’t have Indian summer until November. So no matter where you shop, be it Barneys, Bergdorf’s, Bloomingdales, Saks, Jeffrey or eponymous boutiques or for that matter anywhere else, you will either be seeing these exact items or be feeling their influence.
In the absence of its namesake, there lies a new collection. Actually, the name is the same but the look is grown up and the overall appearance has evolved into a beautifully executed sartorial statement. What was always a seemingly odd costume gala assembled by Mr. Galliano is now an all-out focused presentation of FASHION, of the wearable variety, which certainly seems like an oxymoron at this brand.
Mr. Gaytten has extended a firm hand and lead the collection to a future which is decidedly more than series of runways spectacles of complicated overly designed clothes. In the Galliano of the present, there are beautiful coats, some with waist accentuation, there are finely tailored jackets, and there is even a reference to the doughboy, flyers and all. Even with the jodhpur distractions, it is hard to miss the beauty of this collection which is both waist centric and outerwear centric. Even the beaded pieces, which I am sure are stratospherically expensive, are exquisitely rendered with a hitherto unknown restraint rarely seen in previous collections.
I’m guessing the reaction will be most welcome in a season of me too collections which offer so much repetition that they all seem to have morphed into each other. Here is an individual stand-alone collection that veers off the “trend path” with stunning result.
