NYC fashion; what's in store...Fall 2012 Paris men's...Dior

Fall fashion Paris 2012… The clothes shown in these last days of Collection will be in store for Fall 2012 or in lay terms, these garments will be hitting the racks around mid-June thru September for fall selling and wearing....that is to say provided we don’t have Indian summer until November.  So no matter where you shop, be it Barneys, Bergdorf’s, Bloomingdales, Saks, Jeffrey, H&M, Zara or eponymous boutiques or for that matter anywhere else, you will either be seeing these exact items or be feeling their influence.

Call it olive drab, O.D., “officer’s green” in Mr. Van Assche’s words, army green or loden, but call Kris Van Assche as he seems to think that this is the new black for Fall 2012.  Dior Homme is a study or an ode to the color green with very little else to distract one’s eyes other than the proportions and color shown on the runway.

Mr. Van Assche presented this largely monochromatic collection with the help of a deft hand and a critical eye towards the legions of fashionable young men, albeit most of them with trust funds or of independent wealth.  He covered all the bases from the lean and shaped to the voluminous coat/cape shapes that have been sprinkled across the runways over these past 2 weeks.

You might ask if there was anything new here other than the use of the color and according to Mr. Van Assche, he always wanted to do sportswear, hence this fall collection.  Yes, it is more fun to design sportswear rather than tailored clothing, but there are pitfalls which usually result in a preponderance of excess.  Such is not the case here as the collection makes its statements via a minimum of looks which are comprised of a minimum of pieces.

The look is very androgynous which is great because from its inception, Dior Homme, the collection has always appealed to women who are lucky enough to wear it and afford it.  The ladies’ counterpart rarely offers up such wearable and utile clothes which pushed the Dior woman right into the arms of Dior Homme.  It would be very interesting to really know what percentage of the total clientele is female.
