Dallas Cowboy cheerleader dons blackface, dresses as Lil' Wayne (Photos)

(Photo: Facebook)

Dallas Cowboy cheerleader Whitney Isleib is at the center of a controversy after she posted photos to her Facebook page showing herself dressed as Lil' Wayne at a Halloween party.

Isleib, however, impersonated Lil Wayne in blackface.

Wearing faux dreads, a large chain and silver fronts in her mouth, Isleib is seen in photos grabbing her crotch and posing with other party guests.

Isleib has since removed her Facebook page.

On her profile page on DallasCowboys.com, Isleib says she was born in 1988 and enjoys both country music and hip-hop.

On the same profile page, people are having heated debates over whether Isleib was in the wrong.  While many cite the harm that blackface has done to African-Americans over the course of American history, supporters of Isleib continually note that no fuss was made when the Wayans brothers released "White Chicks" into theaters in 2004.

Blackface became popular in the 19th century in America and would eventually spread overseas into Britain.  While it fast became a tradition in American theater, it has since become a stain in American history.

Many beloved actors have used burnt cork to appear in blackface, including Buster Keaton, Al Jolson, and Judy Garland.

Below, check out the photo slideshow to see Whitney Isleib dress as Lil' Wayne in blackface.  Also, check out the videos below to see older images of blackface used in classic films.

This is getting out of hand. How can it be ok for the Wayan's brothers to dress up like white girls in a movie or Eddie murphy to put on white face in a skit on saturday night live but its not ok for a cheerleader to have some fun dressin up like Lil wayne for a party.Frankly, had she , not put on the makeup, she would have just looked like a white girl with a hat....the makeup made it more believable. We're becoming too sensitive its gotta stop.

because only white people can be racist. when an "oppressed minority" does it, it's ok.

not that there's anything wrong with that.

    right? ...right?

And if you see the last picture, a black woman (yes, I said it!) is there as well, and she surely doesn't look very offended to me. Perhaps she didn't know that "blackface" was allegedly created as an offensive act, but then why don't you use the same criteria with Ms. Isleib, she probably wasn't aware of that as well. The problem with all these nonsensical accusations is that you are basing all the charges in perception and not on intention, as it should be. Hurt feelings is BS. I cannot control what people perceive, what should I be held accountable for something I don't have control over? Anything I say could be misinterpreted and spun, and that is an unfair tool we must not give to those that want to turn America into something it was never meant to be.

I don't think she meant it to be offensive, it seems like she has a very diverse group of friends. The truth of it all is if a large number of people do find it offensive then it's important to be compassionate about the matter. Things are not getting twisted here buddy. Blackface is offensive and I think she knows that now. I am thinking this information will make her think a little more about what it appropriate and what is not. I am excited for that! A lesson to learn from!

I notice that you pixeled out the face of the guy who was also wearing blackface and the 2 people dressed as mariachi singers, ostensibly because they’re not public figures. That says all that needs to be said about this alleged controversy. You’re not so much offended by white people in blackface as you are trying to embarrass the Cowboys organization and further your racial victimhood.

As a black person I don't find anything wrong with what she did. She wasn't making funny of black people she was being LiL Wayne and the girl in the picture with her is a black person not a person in blackface.

Everyone needs to lighten up a little bit. If this was a black girl who painted herself white, no one would be complaining at all. It was a costume. Nothing more. Everything isn't a big deal.

If this is true, I want to know how many AA's Whitney set out to offend when she put her costume together. As an AA, I am more offended by weenies like "Love" who want to look out for me. Thanks, but no thanks (you idiot).

From the photos posted there seem to be other people of color. Are they smiling, can't tell because of the pixelation. (sp?)
Were these people offended? This all seems a little ridiculous.
She wasn't being demeaning. She is a fan of Lil Wayne.

For all of those how believe that black face was created to be offensive: please watch one of these old movies or a seen or tow and decide for yourself if it is for theater or offensive and degrading to all black people. Please note the in the time of the old movies blacks were not allowed or severely discriminated against in the film industry and thus for a white man to play a black man they put on a mask of color. Please don't fall for the lie that if someone paints their face they are being hateful. I'm sure that the cheerleader had no hate for the black man when she donned on some color because of the company she had laughing around her, her black friends. How can you say that she did something wrong? How are you to judge her character by one photo? Do you not act out freely with your friends? How sensitive do you want to be? Are you more concerned about this than say the suffering in Africa? Do you know any real history in regards to this subject or are you quick to judge?

My thing is, why is it that when people want to dress up and portray black people, it's always the negative stereotypes they are trying to emulate? It's always rappers or some thug image they want to be. There's always a negative connotation. I know people ain't going as Bill Cosby--but Lil Wayne?

And black people never try to be white at parties. I don't see black people dressing up as Bill Clinton or Miley Cyrus or David Letterman.

People also need to stop throwing out "White Chicks." That was produced by Hollywood and more than likely was watched by more white people than black. On top of that, has anyone heard of "Soul Man???"--where a white guy wears blackface and 'becomes' black to get into college? It cuts both ways, so let's stick to the real world and not the movie theater.

This was not a case of the old school black face witch is obviously offensive. She was dressed up as a destictive personality (Lil Wanye) not a abstract stereo type.Heck I dressed up as Bruce lee complete with the kung fu outfit and I'm not chinese (but I've been told I look asian),Does that make me a rascist.

In one of his posts Afrodude said, "As an AA, I am more offended by weenies like "Love" who want to look out for me. Thanks, but no thanks (you idiot)." I think it was presumptuous of him to think Love is not African American his or herself. Perhaps it would be more appropriate to assume Love is looking out for her/himself. I actually think it is outrageous that Afrodude thinks he is speaking for an entire group of 25 million people. Blackface is undoubtably racist. Just the same as cartoons suggesting Barack Obama is a monkey. If those cartoons do not offend you then your are so unhooked from society that your opinion on blackface is irrelevant. Afrodude needs to check his prejudices.

Sophia, I am shocked! How can you be so dense and yet so sure of yourself. You have no clue. Rent the movie, "Bamboozled". Why do you think African Americans wore black on their face? Why did they accentuate the size of the lips? Why did they act like buffoons? Do you believe those are accurate depictions of Africans and African Americans? You need to educate yourself before you presume to tell other people they are being judgmental.

It's not "blackface", if ALL of her body is painted brown, dumbasses. And it's not blackface at all, she didn't go as a minstrel-type of blackface with the big white lips and the faux nappy hair and the tattered clothing and all the bad stereotypical stuff. She went AS A BLACK RAPPER. Without the makeup, NO ONE would've understood what her costume is supposed to be. People need to slow down and stop overreacting at everything. Pretty soon, no one will take blackface seriously because anyone who's white who puts on makeup several shades darker than their own skin is automatically labeled as blackface, regardless of whether it isn't when you look at the context. People are making life harder than it needs to be.

Don't be ignorant, black face has racist origins, it was invented to persecute black Americans, even today when white Americans don BF it is suspect! Is this cheerleader a racist because she used BF? NO! But she did partake in a historically racist practice. Whites in BF is is ALWAYS a bad idea.
