Supes to vote today on Blue Angels ban

I emailed the Blue Angels from work in the late 90s asking them to stop flying over SF. The noise was bad enough, but the possibility of an accident in congested city was unthinkable. I got a phone call from the Blue Angels in Tamp, FLA about 10 minutes later! The man asked me if I was proud to be an American, and decided that the conversation was his and only his. He was not interested in legitimate complains. He wanted to shame me for protesting the Blue Angels. The Blue Angels should be able to fly air shows if they want to, but not over congested cities, no matter how much it pumps into the economy. We are waiting for the one accident that will change things. Why do we have to wait?

DO NOT BAN the Blue Angels from SF. It is only once a year and my kids, my wife, and I really enjoy the show. Stop whining San Francisco.

there is a way to honor those who have served or are serving without showing false and agressive pride that is symbolized by blue angels. what happened to a parade or a silent vigil. We are not celebrating war, especially after all this country has been through in the last few years. there is no wisdom in blue angels. as this country is changing its priorities and mourning our decisions, blue angels have to be reconsidered as being an appropriate reflection of that change.

as said, commercial airlines fly over all the time. a "slight miscalculation or mechanical failure" could cause just a LITTLE more damage than the once a year, extremely talented and safe Blue Angels, don't you think? so then let's ground all airlines! because by their logic they're much more dangerous than the Blue Angels. while we're at it, a "slight miscalculation" on the part of a car driver kills people all the time. again much more dangerous than the Blue Angels who have never harmed a spectator. well, i guess that means we have to ban cars and buses as well. and bicycles are out, god knows what untold carnage they can cause...is this insane drivel for real? i totally support their right to oppose whatever, including the profession i belong to. that's WHY i'm in the military. but how about you work through our political system to get changes you want, rather than trying to block a revenue-bringing event with the most pathetic argument ever.

Chris Daly is an idiot. I am in the navy and we have a saying when one of those jets roars to life and launches off the deck of a carrier and that is "that it's the sound of freedom". We like to see them leave the deck and we thank god when they come back and touch down. Mr Daly you have the freedoms that you have because of those jets and the men and women that fly them. Me personally if it were up to me I would "not" defend your freedoms. You sir are a hypocrite. All your whiney constituance are worried about is their property value and how much of a buck they can make when it comes time to sell. San Francisco is full of hypocrites and their whiney politics. Are you kidding? Fleet week is amazing and so are the pilots flying the Blue Angels. I have fond memories of the Blue Angels flying over San Francisco and everytime they flew over I had nothing but respect and admiration for our men and women in uniform. About the noise, how petty! I guess they will start complaining about the Firefighters and their firetrucks that go down the streets with their sirens on!

Blue Angels are trained to do Air Show. They are not just regular people. Guys, just let him do their job. They are getting pay, not just play around like a mouse and a cat.

San Francisco supervisors have a job description, and detemining if the blue angels event is valid or not is not part of there job description. The problem with the supervisors is that they don't have a "supervisor" that keeps them pointed towards their jobs. They constantly move off track. Most managers in private industry would be fire for this lack of focused pursuit of their job description. Like most cities, or companies with too much money they squander this advantage on areas that are not in the city's primary area of interest.

I'm a resident of District 6, and the quality of life and crime issues seem to me way more important than an Angels event that seems to be popular with a majority of the people. Everyday, I'm reminded that if Mr. Daly is not representing me and my neighbors, and he spends more time introducing legislation that is popular with the people and has little overall effects ghbors, then who DOES represent our neighborhood? And where are our hard earned tax-dollars going? Isn't it time we get to WORK and come up with a NEW approach to modern issues? From what I can see, Mr Daly's approach to issues are wasteful to taxpayers based on old school and proven FAILED programs of past administrations.

District elections at first were met with some skepticism. They seem to have turned into a type of theatre of the absurd with individuals winning seats to fulfill their desire to "change the system from within," an old radical 60's montra. It's so transparent.

Interesting Article. Mr. Daly appears to be heavily influenced by a small but vocal group. In Mr. Daly's case, the Silent Majority is not important. This is why we should definitely do away with District Elections (or the Ward System). Obviously, some of our Supervisors don't even represent their electorial districts. If the City went back to the old system of City-wide voting; our representative would be an impartial group which would represent all of the voters.

Move Fleet week to a city like New O. LA where the finalcial help is needed and would be well received. Let us smoke our weed in peace.

You have got to be kidding...4 days out of the year we get the chance to honor those who give us a the opportunity to speak without fear and that goes to Daly. For 4 days we are one community supporting our military who are doing a job none of us would volunteered to do. I don't see Daly volunteering for Iraq. Chriss Daly neds to see what good the Blue Angels and Fleet week does for public moral and patriots around America. If he doesn't like it so much then maybe he should leave. This has been a tradition and if he is waving the pink flag of local 69 in front of the US Flag then maybe we might want to think again about hiring a guy that has very little to do with the good of our community.

This is a good example of the vocal minority trying to interfere with the activities of the majority. Fleet Week and the Blue Angels show extends far beyond the boundaries of San Francisco. If the Board of Supervisors persist in this idiocy, we will lose Fleet Week to Oakland just like we lost the rest of the mariners business!

In all honestly, I don't have any issue with the Blue Angels per se, but they have been flying over Treasure Island (where I live) at altitudes of what must be a couple hundred feet. They cause car alarms to go off, my cats and even my fish to panic, and manage to make even myself nervous. The debates about safety and pollution aside, and also ignoring the fact that the whole thing is a somewhat silly recruitment campaign, it's simply not appropriate to fly so low over a neighborhood. Seriously, if you don't believe me try watching the show from one of the residential areas of TI. If you aren't too distracted by the excellent view of the show you'll have there you might notice that they are repeatedly flying within hundreds of feet of the same houses. Like I said, I don't mind the show per se, but I honestly get a feeling of dread pretty much all day when they are flying over the island. Terrorizing? Okay, drama queen, let's tone down the melodrama a notch. They've been flying directly over my house all day too and i think it's cool. I love to watch them and I live here too, so don't assume your point of view is the majority. Daly's extreme view has been defeated in the city my more rational minds. Just because you don't like it, don't take it away from me. The beauty of democracy is that everyone gets a voice, but ultimately when a decision needs to be made, the majority wins, that's why it's called voting. This city's very vocal extremist minority usually overshadows the silent majority who are politically moderate. It's high time the moderate majority stand up and stop letting our political system be subverted by extremists (left or right).

Daly and everyone involved - Please keep working to prevent the blue angels from terrorizing us in the future! I work near the Embarcadero, and being under ear-splitting attack all day is not helping the regular stresses of work. And knowing that it’s with the use of my tax money and pollutes the air I breathe on the way home, not to mention the other issues with jet fuel, is really maddening. Maybe they can have shows for people who want to see them somewhere further from the city - and funded by ticket sales!

Well, what is noise to one person is music to another. This applies as much to high-performance aircraft as it does to popular music. But seriously, I don't mean to be rude, but are you so unnerved and enfeebled that the sound of a plane overhead makes you drive unsafely? Completely aside from any argument about the military or the Angels, if that's the case then you might want to consider not driving, since the roads are full of noisy, distracting moving things. Really.

I would LOVE to ban the Blue Angels. I hate the terrible noise. It hurts my ears, put me nerves totally on edge. And why is it necessary?! It's also very dangerous when driving because the noise is distracting and disorienting.

For those who think this issue is really about safety and noise, why is Code Pink teamed with Daly on this effort? Daly's push has nothing to do with noise and safety, for the same reason the banning of the USMC commercial had nothing to do with traffic disruptions. As a political moderate (I think anybody too far on either side simply doesn't think for themselves) and resident of SF, I love the diversity here and welcome the Folsom St. Fair right alongside military recruiters and ROTC. The two do not have to be mutually exclusive.

Chris Daly's political career is going to skyrocket (pardon the pun) when one of these jets crashes into a crowded neighborhood. I just hope the jet crashes into a neighborhood that belongs to one of the so called patriots who bleat "Up with the Blue Angels"! It would be about the most appropriate use of American military might to date.

If you think it's a waste of fuel and damaging to the environment, I guess you think we should just stop making military vehicles and training soldiers too. Oh wait, then you would be the first to say that the administration isn't giving troops the necessary training and equipment. Unless, of course you are one of those aforementioned people who think there should be no military and that the Bin Ladens of the world will stop trying to kill us if we just hug them and say we're sorry. Man, I wish that fantasy world were real, but it isn't. If you know anything about Al Qaeda and their like, you would know that even if we had no physical presence in the Middle East, they would want us dead simply because they think the Western way of life is a bad influence on the world and should be eradicated. It is unfortunate, but the only way to be safe from that sort of lunacy is through a strong military. People like that don't respond to diplomacy. Stop living in a fantasy world.

I would much rather listen to the Sound Of Freedom thundering overhead than to any more of Daly's lefty rants! Our City is perceived as a joke by the rest of the US, in red or blue states, and it is all because of the idiocy that emmanates from City Hall. I say let the majority be silent no more!

Around 1 million people vote with their feet to see the Angels. Daly should vote with his feet and move to N. Korea to be with his brethern.

I strongly support the banning of the Blue Angels flying around. It is a tremendous nuisance due to noise and vibrating of my home & office. More importantly, it is a HUGE waste of fuel and damaging to the environment as a result!

The Blue Angels IS peace. Imagine one of these babies thundering over some towel-heads with an IED. The result would be an instant conversion.

This is clearly an attempt to use unfounded safety and noise concerns to promote the Anti-Military agenda. Whether you are for or against Iraq should have no bearing on support for the military in general. Those who say we shouldn't have a military live in a wonderful fantasy world where the Bin Ladins of the world would stop trying to kill us if we just gave them a hug and said we are sorry. Sounds great, but that is not reality. As a war veteran myself, I hate war and unecessary violence, but sometimes it is the only answer. There are bad people in the world who do not respond to diplomacy and only understand brute force. It's okay to hate war but love the military and recognize its necessity at the same time.

Blue Angels make too much noise. The noise they make is very disruptive, especially if you have to conduct business or make telephone calls downtown. The noise is very distressing and there's nothing that can be done to get away from it. If they do continue to waste tax payers dollars with that, they should do it somewhere less populated, oh but then it would disturb the wildlife. I guess they shouldn't do it at all.

What about the Hell's Angels?

Sounds like with all the NO PARTY in the Castro Ads, and now the Blue Angels grounding tatics, San Francisco is not only a NO FLY ZONE, but a NO FUN ZONE! To much! How is it that a major US city can be held hostage by a politician who received 7,241 votes. That is what is really wrong with SF. Name one job where you can literally fight with your co-workers, call them drug abusers without any proof and swear excessively at people in meetings. These people are single-handedly making SF the laughing stock of the country and its own residents.

How much more time and money will Chris Daley waste? People are homeless, the schools here are crap, and decent families are leaving the city. Let's focus on real quality of life issues for everyone. Not an event that lasts for just 4 DAYS. And what has Chris Daley (outsider from back east) EVER done for veterans? Now he cares about them? Oh give me a break.

I was suprised that Sandoval-the idiot who said on national TV that "we don't need a military" voted to keep the Blues. If SF wants to show more that it supports the Navy, then bring the USS Iowa to SF.

How about a compromise? No flying over the City. Remember: the flyovers occur over a 4 day span (Thursday thru Sunday). They are extremely loud. Is anybody sympathetic of those veterans that might be sufferering from PTSS or other shell-shocked conditions?

Daly questions having the Blue Angels event in SF....I question why SF needs supervisors? One is worthwhile the other is worthless.
