The officer was driving in a patrol car with another officer when someone flagged them down in front of the Franciscan Motel at 6600 Third St., Bayview Capt. Al Pardini said Friday. An unleashed pit bull had apparently escaped from a guest at the motel and attacked another, leashed pit bull being walked by its owner.
The owners tried to disentangle the dogs, Pardini said. The officers sprayed the aggressive dog with pepper spray to no effect.
”Because of the aggressiveness of the dog and the danger to everybody that was there, the officers ended up having to shoot the dog,” Pardini said.
